As a Staff Packaging Development Engineer, you will play a critical role in bringing innovative products to life, partnering across the business to design and deliver packaging solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, safety and performance. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise, influence design decisions and support products that truly make a difference for patients around the world. What will you be doing? Designing and developing sterile and non sterile packaging systems for new product development and existing product lines from concept through design transfer and production Providing technical packaging expertise and support to cross functional teams including R and D, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing and Operations Defining packaging design inputs and requirements using voice of customer insights and applicable regulatory and industry standards including
ISO 11607
Planning, coordinating and monitoring packaging projects, including schedules, progress updates and technical documentation Developing and executing packaging feasibility studies, design verification activities and validation documentation Supporting packaging sustaining activities, including engineering change requests and implementation of design changes Working closely with packaging suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement Mentoring and providing technical guidance to lower level engineers and contributing to packaging related business initiatives What will you need to be successful? Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science or a related engineering or science discipline Minimum of 6 years of relevant packaging engineering experience within the medical device or regulated industry environment, or an advanced degree with equivalent experience Demonstrated experience designing sterile and non sterile medical device packaging systems Working knowledge of ISO, ASTM and ISTA test methods and regulatory requirements related to packaging Strong analytical, problem solving and documentation skills with experience using tools such as SolidWorks and Minitab Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and communicate clearly at multiple levels of the organization You. Discounts on fitness clubs, travel and more! The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $125,500 - $198,000 USD annually. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
