This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in designing, building, and optimizing mechanical systems for automation cells. You will lead internal automation initiatives, support productization efforts, and collaborate with international teams to bring cutting-edge solutions to life.
Automation Cell Development:
Design and engineer mechanical systems for automation cells, including custom tooling, fixtures, and robotic interfaces tailored to igus production and customer needs.
Project Leadership:
Manage mechanical aspects of automation projects from concept through implementation. Ensure timely delivery, budget adherence, and performance optimization.
Feasibility & Process Improvement:
Conduct detailed feasibility studies and process analyses to identify automation opportunities that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
Prototyping & Testing:
Build and test mechanical prototypes. Analyze performance data and iterate designs to meet functional and safety requirements.
Productization & Customer Solutions:
Collaborate with product development and sales teams to transform successful internal automation solutions into scalable offerings for external customers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, production, and quality teams—both locally and internationally—to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
Continuous Improvement:
Monitor deployed automation systems, identify areas for mechanical optimization, and implement upgrades to improve reliability and performance.
Documentation & Training:
Develop detailed mechanical documentation, including CAD drawings, BOMs, and maintenance procedures. Train internal teams on system operation and upkeep.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and automation systems. Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks). Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience with robotic integration, motion systems, and industrial automation. Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to travel occasionally for tradeshows and collaboration with global teams. •Local candidates only - must be able to be in office
