Job Description

Drafts simple structural drawings including bridge and roadway structural components and details utilizing CADD. Assists in basic structural component design using computer programs. Components to be designed may include conventional slabs, pile bents, footings, piers, beams, retaining walls, culverts, miscellaneous roadway structures, non-standard pipes and other structural components. Calculate basic elevations and geometric dimensions of structural components. Prepares basic bridge plans using data provided by the roadway and hydrology design groups. Prepares basic roadway structure plans using appropriate geometry based on site conditions. Perform basic calculations of quantities for conventional bid items to be included in the plans. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
