THE ROLE
Project Engineer - Mechanical The purpose of the role is to develop and implement plans to ensure completion of work to satisfy engineering requests and provide technical resources to production departments. This will be accomplished through involvement with contractor activities related to assigned projects, and in support of the Project Engineering Superintendent to ensure maximization of site equipment availability and reliability. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing mechanical engineering projects to ensure they are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Planning and Design:
Design mechanical systems and components for new installations, upgrades, and modifications to existing equipment. Develop detailed project plans, including budget, scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to determine project viability.Technical Expertise:
Provide technical support and expertise in mechanical engineering to ensure optimal performance and reliability of equipment. Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate design concepts and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Select appropriate materials, equipment, and technologies for project implementation.Project Management:
Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, electrical engineers, and construction personnel, to achieve project goals. Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.Vendor and Contractor Management:
Evaluate and select vendors and contractors for project execution. Prepare technical specifications, request for proposals (RFPs), and bid evaluations. Oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards.Quality and Safety:
Ensure all projects adhere to quality control standards and safety regulations. Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with engineering designs and specifications. Implement best practices for mechanical engineering and project management to enhance overall efficiency and safety.Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design drawings, technical reports, and progress updates. Present project status, findings, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Minimum five years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the mining or metallurgical, refining, and/or chemical industry. Proven experience in managing capital projects from conception to completion. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and materials used in zinc smelting and sulfuric acid production. Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS). Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Experience with developing budgets and monitoring costs for large scale projects (>$1M) Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering and project management.WORKING CONDITIONS
