What You'll Do As the Senior Thermal Engineer, you will play a critical role in advancing Coilmaster's heat exchanger technology and the engineering tools that support our products. This position sits at the intersection of thermal engineering, product development, and software-enabled modeling. You will lead the development and validation of thermal models, support new product innovation, and enhance proprietary engineering applications used for equipment selection and performance prediction.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead thermal design and performance analysis of fin-and-tube heat exchangers for HVAC and refrigeration applications Develop, implement, and maintain physics-based thermal performance models used in engineering software Translate laboratory and field test data into validated computational models for production use Own the accuracy and consistency of engineering calculations across selection and simulation tools Partner with software teams to integrate, test, and maintain engineering models within applications Investigate and resolve gaps between predicted and measured performance through root cause analysis and model refinement Drive continuous improvement in modeling methods, validation standards, and engineering processes Support new product development through model-based evaluation from concept through production Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and cost-effective Contribute to value engineering and product optimization initiatives balancing performance, manufacturability, and cost What You'll Need Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required 7+ years of experience in heat transfer, HVAC, refrigeration, or thermal systems design Master's degree or PhD preferred Strong expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics Direct experience with heat exchanger design and performance modeling Ability to build engineering models using first principles and empirical correlations Proven programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools Experience validating models using laboratory or field performance data Understanding of fin-and-tube manufacturing processes including fin forming, tube expansion, brazing, and assembly Ability to evaluate tradeoffs between performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability Experience with engineering software, selection tools, or simulation platforms Exposure to C#/.NET or similar environments preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, software, and manufacturing teams High attention to detail, technical ownership, and problem-solving capability What You'll Gain Opportunity to lead innovation in advanced thermal engineering and product development Competitive compensation package Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage 401(k) with company matching Paid time off and company holidays Career growth within a global organization backed by Berkshire Hathaway Collaborative environment where technical expertise drives business success Following receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.
