Mechanical Engineer (Design Transfer & Manufacturing Support)

Contract (6-12 months) Introduction We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the transfer of completed product designs into production while ensuring manufacturability, quality, and compliance with engineering standards. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to support medical device products, including Capital Systems, RF Surgical Consoles, and Single-Use Handpieces. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in gauge and fixture design, GD&T, product inspection, and SolidWorks, along with a proven track record of supporting products through design transfer and manufacturing implementation. Responsibilities Lead and support the transfer of completed product designs from development into manufacturing and production environments. Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure successful product launches and sustained production. Design and develop manufacturing gauges, fixtures, tooling, and inspection equipment to support production processes. Create, review, and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, specifications, work instructions, and ECOs. Apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure proper part functionality and manufacturability. Conduct product inspections, dimensional analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions for manufacturing issues. Support process validation, design verification activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Utilize SolidWorks to create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings. Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve technical issues and improve product quality. Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturing-focused feedback to improve product performance and reliability. Requirements Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required. 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in medical devices, electromechanical systems, or regulated manufacturing environments. Experience transferring products from design/development into production. Strong background in gauge and fixture design. Proficiency in GD&T and interpretation of engineering drawings. Advanced experience with SolidWorks. Experience performing product inspections, dimensional analysis, and manufacturing troubleshooting. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, and quality systems. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Capital Systems, RF Surgical Consoles, or Single-Use Medical Device Handpieces. Familiarity with medical device regulations and quality standards. Experience with process validation, design controls, and risk management methodologies. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
