Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Terafab Tesla Motors, Inc. paid holidays, flex time, 401(k) United States, Texas, Austin Jun 24, 2026
What to Expect We are building Terafab
- a vertically integrated semiconductor factory at an unprecedented scale. Logic, memory, packaging, test, and lithography mask production in one facility, optimized for rapid iteration and the highest compute density ever produced under one roof. Without reliable, well-designed equipment, there is no fab. As a Sr. Equipment Engineer at Terafab, you own the full technical life of a tool
- from selection through implementation to sustained performance. You challenge requirements, drive design improvements, and you're not satisfied until the tool performs the way Terafab demands
- pushing the boundaries of what semiconductor equipment can do at factory scale. What You'll Do
Own the full lifecycle of process equipment
- from vendor selection through IQ/OQ/PQ and ongoing performance optimization
Lead tool installation across logic, memory, packaging, test, and mask shop domains
Engage vendors at a design level
- review and redline drawings, challenge specifications, and originate Terafab-specific designs when commercial solutions fall short
Apply mechanical and electromechanical design knowledge to identify root causes and drive hardware improvements that deliver systematic availability gains
Develop and execute qualification plans including tool-to-tool matching and process baselines; own PM programs, spare parts strategies, and uptime KPIs
Partner with Process and Automation Engineers to resolve equipment-related excursions, yield impacts, and tool readiness milestones in support of fab ramp What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience
5+ years of semiconductor equipment engineering experience in a 300mm fab, with demonstrated ability to engage tools at a design level•not just an operational one
Hands-on experience installing and qualifying at least two advanced process tool types (including EUV lithography or other ultra-high-precision tools), with a track record of driving tool performance from qualification through ramp
Strong mechanical and electromechanical design fundamentals•able to read and interpret drawings, identify failure modes, evaluate proposed modifications, and engage vendors with the technical depth needed to drive the right outcomes
Deep understanding of semiconductor equipment subsystems including vacuum, gas delivery, RF plasma, temperature control, and recipe management
Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating service contracts, and working with SEMI standards (E10, E30, E58) and
