We study space, time, energy, and matter at all scales ranging from those describing subatomic particles to the evolution and structure of the universe as a whole. Position Overview Work with the graduate students on establishing the 3-omega experiment to measure thermal conductivity of thin films. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Recognize advancement in laboratory research. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. with industry experience in infrared sensors.; Required License/Registration/Certifications Valid Texas Driver's License Job Duties Design the experimental setup for thermal conductivity measurements using the 3-omega technique. Assess the performance of the lock-in amplifier and suggest modifications to the experimental set up to make measurements in the high-frequency range. Design the heater pads on select substrates in terms of its geometry to ensure radial heat flow and estimate the thermal penetration depth. Review literature to obtain appropriate equations to measure thermal conductivity. Compare the measured values with standards for SiO2, quartz, Si, TiN Physical Requirements Communicating with others to exchange information. Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds. Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
