Job Description
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving real-world mechanical problems, improving existing designs, analyzing failures, and working closely with manufacturing and operations teams to drive practical results. You will play a key role in sustaining engineering, value analysis/value engineering (VAVE), and reverse engineering/remanufacturing initiatives.

What Youll DoSustaining Engineering & Product ImprovementLead sustaining engineering efforts including field issue resolution, design updates, product standardization, and continuous improvement initiativesDrive VAVE projects focused on cost reduction, manufacturability, quality, and performance optimizationCollaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and operations teams to implement engineering improvementsCreate and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, models, and bills of materialSupport design-for-manufacturability (DFM) initiatives and production process improvementsHydraulic Cylinder DesignDesign and support hydraulic cylinder products for industrial and mobile applicationsPerform engineering calculations including:
Bore and stroke sizingRod buckling analysis (Euler calculations)Load path evaluationMount selectionSeal system selection and validationSelect appropriate materials and surface treatments including chrome and HVOF applicationsEnsure designs meet customer requirements, internal standards, and applicable regulatory requirementsDevelop and maintain 3D models and detailed engineering drawingsReverse Engineering & RemanufacturingSupport teardown, inspection, and reverse engineering activities for hydraulic cylinders and related componentsAnalyze returned products and failed components to identify root causes and improvement opportunitiesEvaluate rods, tubes, seals, weldments, and machined components for wear, reuse potential, and manufacturabilityDevelop repair standards, inspection criteria, and remanufacturing guidelinesSupport corrective actions associated with warranty claims and field failuresValidation & TestingDevelop validation and test plans including pressure, fatigue, and environmental testingReview and interpret test data to support product improvementsLead or support root cause investigations and failure analysis activitiesDevelop DFMEAs and associated risk mitigation plansWhat Were Looking ForBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field5+ years of experience in mechanical design, sustaining engineering, product support, or related engineering rolesStrong understanding of hydraulic cylinders, mechanical systems, and applied engineering fundamentalsExperience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologiesProficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools such as Creo, ANSYS, Windchill, or similar platformsWorking knowledge of material science as applied to mechanical engineering applicationsStrong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in hydraulic systems, mobile equipment, industrial equipment, or remanufacturing environmentsCFPE certification or equivalent industry experienceExperience supporting both new product introduction and sustaining engineering initiativesWhat Success Looks LikeReliable and technically sound engineering solutionsSuccessful implementation of cost reduction and product improvement initiativesStrong support of manufacturing and operational goalsEffective resolution of field and warranty issuesHigh-quality engineering documentation and design executionImproved product reliability, manufacturability, and customer satisfactionWhy Texas Hydraulics?

Work Environment & Physical RequirementsThis position operates in both office and manufacturing environments. While performing the duties of this role, employees may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical equipment and moderate industrial noise levels.
The position may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Employees may regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms, and communicate with others throughout the workday.
