Job Description

Job Title:
R&D Engineering Manager Overview:
Powder River Cattle Equipment Company is a leading provider of high-quality livestock handling equipment. With a rich history spanning over 80 years, we pride ourselves on delivering innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency and safety of cattle operations. We believe in fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The R&D Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the research, design, development, and continuous improvement of metal products, processes, and technologies within the manufacturing plant. This role focuses on New Product Development, improving existing product quality, reducing costs, and driving innovation to maintain competitive advantage and meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
1.
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute the R&D strategy aligned with company goals and market demands, identifying opportunities for innovation in metal processing and fabrication techniques. 2.
Design and Development:
Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components from concept to production, ensuring functionality, performance, and reliability. 3.
Engineering Analysis:
Conduct engineering analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA), to validate designs and optimize performance. 4.
CAD Modeling:
Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, adhering to industry standards and best practices. 5.
Prototyping and Testing:
Coordinate prototyping activities and conduct thorough testing to validate designs and identify areas for improvement. 6.
Project Management:
Manage several R&D projects, ensuring milestones, budgets, and timelines are met. 7.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other subsystems. 8.
Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports, to communicate technical details and project status effectively. 9.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical engineering, and leverage this knowledge to drive continuous improvement in design processes and methodologies. 10.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, codes, and safety requirements applicable to mechanical systems and components. 11.
Quality:
Support quality assurance with root cause analysis and corrective actions 12.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and welders, allocating resources effectively and foster a culture of innovation and accountability
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field / Equivalent work experience 2. 1+ years in a leadership or management role 3. 2+ Experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in a product development or manufacturing environment. 4. Proficiency in Inventor and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL). 5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct engineering analysis and interpret results. 6. Experience with prototyping techniques and testing methodologies. 7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 8. Ability to learn new things and to be teachable 9. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. 10. Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work. 11. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
1. Production or R&D welding experience 2. Experience working in industries such as Farming and Ranching.
