Half-day schedule Onsite position in Blacksburg, VA Position Summary The Senior Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and development of precision rotating electromechanical products, specifically slip ring assemblies. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking designs from concept through production, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, manufacturing requirements, and stringent aerospace quality standards. This role requires strong expertise in mechanical design, electrical integration, thermal analysis, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle support. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Product Development Develop innovative concepts and detailed designs for high-reliability slip ring assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications. Perform mechanical, thermal, and electrical design analysis to ensure product performance and reliability. Create and maintain detailed engineering models, drawings, specifications, and documentation. Lead design activities from proposal and concept phases through production release and ongoing product support. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize product performance and manufacturability. Engineering Analysis Conduct engineering calculations, simulations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs. Evaluate product performance under demanding environmental and operational conditions. Analyze and resolve complex technical issues throughout the product development lifecycle. Customer & Supplier Interface Interpret customer specifications, requirements, and technical standards. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Support technical reviews, customer meetings, and design presentations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, test engineering, and supply chain. Documentation & Compliance Generate and review engineering drawings, bills of materials, test procedures, and technical reports. Apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements. Ensure designs comply with aerospace, defense, and company quality standards. Review peer designs and engineering documentation for technical accuracy and completeness. Research & Development Support internal research and development initiatives aimed at advancing slip ring technologies. Identify opportunities for innovation, product improvement, and cost reduction. Contribute to new technology development and product enhancement programs. Required QualificationsEducation Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience designing and analyzing precision rotating electromechanical equipment. Proven experience in product development from concept through production. Experience working in aerospace, defense, military, industrial automation, or related high-reliability industries is highly preferred. Technical Skills Strong mechanical design experience, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). Proficiency with CAD and CAE software tools. Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Knowledge of machining processes, manufacturing capabilities, and drafting standards. Ability to review and validate engineering designs and technical documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
