Mechanical Engineer Location:
Newport News, VA Status:
Contract 12 months with extensions Experience level: E.I.T. or Professional License required. U.S. Citizenship also required.
SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and oversight of complex mechanical systems within heavy industrial environments. This role requires strong technical expertise in utility distribution systems, plant mechanical systems, piping, pumps, HVAC, chilled water, and industrial process ventilation. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards and be capable of supporting projects from concept through execution. Responsibilities Design and support mechanical utility distribution systems and central plant systems Provide engineering expertise for heavy industrial mechanical systems and infrastructure Apply knowledge of piping principles, centrifugal pumps, and water distribution systems in design and troubleshooting activities Support the design, evaluation, and improvement of HVAC, chilled water, and industrial process ventilation systems Ensure designs and engineering work comply with applicable ASME, NFPA, ASHRAE, ACGIH, and related codes and standards Prepare and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical reports Coordinate with cross-functional teams including project managers, designers, operations, and other engineering disciplines Support system assessments, equipment selection, and design reviews Provide technical guidance throughout project planning, execution, installation, and startup activities Assist with code compliance, safety reviews, and engineering documentation
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Qualifications U.S. Citizenship required Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) actively working toward PE registration Strong knowledge of ASME codes Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards Working knowledge of ASME, ASHRAE, ACGIH, and related engineering standards Experience with piping systems, centrifugal pumps, and water distribution systems Experience with heavy industrial mechanical systems Experience with HVAC, chilled water systems, and industrial process ventilation Preferred Qualifications Experience working in industrial plants, utility systems, or process-driven environments Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across teams Benefits PEAK's benefit offerings available for our associates include medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Dependent Care Savings Account (DCA), and 401K plan.
