Basic Job Functions:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the development and enhancement of company product lines. This role assists with multi-team engineering development projects aimed at improving the capabilities of our industrial doors and is responsible for executing and documenting Engineering Change Orders. Provide engineering support for new product development projects. Interface with the Product Group Leader and Project Manager, ECO Liaison, and other project team members to enhance existing products. Develop design solutions that meet the specific project needs or directives outlined in Engineering Change requests. Execute Engineering analysis using accepted engineering practices for mechanical systems Analysis may include static and dynamic evaluation, development of free-body diagrams, design validation methods, and other mechanical performance assessments. Provide single-component finite element analysis as required. Create and maintain bills of material and engineering drawing sets. Work with vendors to facilitate communication and product development needs. Write test plans and quality documentation. Develop and generate manufacturing-ready designs, working closely with factory personnel to ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
Working knowledge of solid modeling, using SOLIDWORKS and
SOLIDWORKS PDM.
Working experience with configurations within
SOLIDWORKS
models is preferred. Experience with Excel for executing engineering calculations which includes clear and user-friendly documentation. Strong drafting ability including a working knowledge of various dimensional call outs, tolerances and symbols. Ability to perform stress analysis using hand calculations, computation methods (Excel, MATLAB, etc.), FEA software, or a combination of these approaches. Ability to read and interpret complex documents including blueprints, work instructions, material specifications, test specifications, industry standards, etc. High level of mechanical aptitude along with fundamental understanding of electrical concepts An understanding of materials and their relative properties as it relates to engineering. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of peers and managers. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables. Hands-on ability to develop & build test fixtures and perform testing of design elements Ability to work onsite at the Jackson facility Monday

Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is required along with 2-5 years engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment or custom machine building environment.
