Job Description

Job Summary Under the direction of the Mold Manufacturing Manager, the AMG Tooling Engineer is responsible for ensuring higher-risk injection molding projects, from quote through PPAP, are optimized for production. Responsibilities include researching and putting into practice mold tooling for new and different materials or processes. Includes developing relationships with vendors that have technical expertise in related field and obtaining technical information as well as mold quotes. This role will collaborate with cross functional teams to develop new sales opportunities and establish a robust manufacturing process. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS&S certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation. Essential Functions Develop relationship with tool vendors that have expertise in manufacturing molds for related products Obtain quotes for mold and related secondary equipment necessary for producing product Document all necessary mold manufacturing information to relay to team members Oversee mold development if project is awarded and work with team members to provide guidance and mentoring Initiate and review flow analysis reports to ensure proper mold design for balance and cycle time Collaborate with material engineers, process engineers and quality engineers to ensure systems and processes are optimized Lead onboarding activities for new tooling vendors Travel to tooling vendors to evaluate mold building capabilities Evaluate product design for moldability Assist in troubleshooting injection molding issues with team members to introduce projects into production within acceptable OEE Evaluate needs for mold pressure and temperature sensing, EOAT, vision or other inspection systems. Work with process engineering, automation, IEs, maintenance and other team members to implement appropriate strategies for maximizing OEE. Review final mold design and file related information related to mold build Create technical purchase order and issue purchase order for construction of mold Perform other tasks as assigned Assist in Maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality Management System and
ISO 14001
certification by supporting: Corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation. Key Competencies Must be proficient in Solidworks design software or similar mold design software Knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastic injection molds and tolerances associated with features of molds Knowledge of melt delivery systems and the appropriate application for products Ability to recommend mold materials and coatings for overcoming issues in molding process Ability to recommend when FEA analysis is needed and to interpret the analysis correctly Interpret shear-induced flow groups and recommend necessary actions for correction Problem solving skills to analyze complex issues and develop plan for addressing problem Effective communication skills to relay technical information to customers and internal team members. Be a mentor when and where needed. Have and maintain a teachable point of view and an ability to help others learn Ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred. Alternatives include some combination of Associate degree in moldmaking, seven or more years of related experience in mold manufacturing and engineering, and demonstrated progressive learning and responsibility. Five or more years experience in plastic injection molding Understanding of different plastic materials and their characteristics Capable and willing to travel 2 - 4 times per year.
