Job Description

Job Title:
Mechanical Designer
  • Siemens NX / Teamcenter (Aerospace & Defense) Job Description This role supports a high-visibility aerospace defense program as a Mechanical Designer, creating and revising mechanical and electro-mechanical designs using Siemens NX and Teamcenter in a predominantly paperless, model-based environment.
You will apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) daily, develop layouts and detailed drawings of moderate complexity, and collaborate closely with engineers and designers to ensure fit, form, and function for mission-critical systems. The position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to long-term strategic defense initiatives and space launch missions while working with advanced
CAD / PLM
tools and model-based definition practices. Responsibilities + Develop layouts and prepare detailed and assembly drawings of moderate complexity for mechanical and electro-mechanical components using Siemens NX and Teamcenter. + Create, revise, and maintain 3D models and associated drawings in a paperless, model-based environment, incorporating Product Manufacturing Information ( PMI ) when applicable. + Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) methods daily to ensure proper fit, form, and function of components and assemblies. + Collaborate closely with engineers and other designers to translate design intent and requirements into accurate, manufacturable models and drawings. + Gather missing or incomplete design information needed to complete assignments by proactively tracking down data, clarifying requirements, and requesting inputs from stakeholders. + Perform drafting and design work in accordance with established company standards, policies, and standard drafting practices. + Use CAD and PLM (vault) software in alignment with drafting standards, including model and drawing organization, revision control, and configuration management. + Design relatively simple mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components as needed under minimal supervision. + Review and refine drawings for clarity, completeness, and compliance with GD&T, standard practices, and program requirements. + Potentially hand off work to and provide guidance or oversight to lower-level drafters to ensure consistency and quality of design outputs. Essential Skills + 5-10 years of mechanical design experience in military, Department of Defense (DoD), or aerospace environments. + Strong, recent hands-on experience with Siemens Unigraphics NX (NX 9.0 or newer; current environment uses NX 2412). + Proficiency level of at least 8/10 with Siemens NX and Teamcenter, including a minimum of 2 years of recent experience with these tools. + Daily, practical use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in recent roles, with a solid understanding of GD&T methods to ensure fit, form, and function. + Proficient use of CAD and PLM (vault) software, specifically Siemens NX and Teamcenter, in accordance with established drafting standards. + Ability to develop layouts and prepare detailed and assembly drawings of moderate complexity for mechanical and electro-mechanical components. + Experience performing work in accordance with standard drafting practices and established design policies and standards. + Demonstrated ability to work independently, determine appropriate next steps, and proactively seek out information needed to complete assignments. + Background in aerospace, military, or DoD design work, particularly in mechanical design for complex systems. + Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance, including U.S. citizenship as required for clearance processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with Product Manufacturing Information ( PMI ) in Siemens NX, ideally at least 1 year, supporting paperless, model-based programs. + Familiarity with model-based definition and paperless engineering environments where PMI captures assembly instructions, work instructions, dimensions, and data sheets directly in the model. + Prior experience supporting launch systems, missile defense, or strategic deterrent programs is beneficial. + Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, manufacturing, and test personnel. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, manufacturable designs. + Proactive, self-directed work style, with the ability to anticipate needs and drive tasks to completion without constant direction. Work Environment You will work on the design and development of mission-critical aerospace and defense systems, including launch systems and defensive systems such as next-generation interceptors and strategic deterrent platforms. The work primarily takes place in an office environment using Siemens NX and Teamcenter on modern engineering workstations, with most tasks focused on digital design, modeling, and documentation. There may be occasional work in laboratory test areas or manufacturing environments to support design reviews, integration activities, or issue resolution. The program operates in a paperless, model-based environment where PMI and digital data replace traditional paper drawings. The organization follows a 9/80 compressed work schedule, in which employees work nine-hour days over a two-week period, totaling 80 hours, and receive every other Friday off. In practice, this typically means working 44 regular hours in the first week and 36 regular hours in the second week, providing a three-day weekend every other week while requiring slightly longer workdays. The culture emphasizes supporting complex government and defense missions, high standards of quality and compliance, and collaboration across engineering and operations teams.
