In this role, you will help design, develop, and improve industrial material handling equipment, conveyors, and wood-processing machinery from concept through production. This is a hands-on design position suited for someone who is strong with 3D modeling, detailed drawings, fabrication-friendly design, and practical problem solving in a manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Design and model wood-processing machinery, heavy industrial material handling systems, conveyors, and other custom machinery using SolidWorks.
- Create 3D models, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials.
- Support basic design calculations and review designs for fit, function, manufacturability, safety, and serviceability.
- Work closely with engineering, production, welding, machining, assembly, purchasing, and service teams to improve designs and resolve issues.
- Apply sound drafting practices and GD&T where appropriate to support proper fit and function.
- Incorporate feedback from manufacturing, installation, startup, and customer applications into design improvements.
- Support design changes, documentation updates, and release of drawings for production.
- Assist with vendor input, prototype reviews, and continuous improvement of existing equipment designs. Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, CAD Technology, or a related field preferred; bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field also considered; equivalent hands-on mechanical design experience will be considered in place of formal education.
- Three or more years of mechanical design experience in industrial equipment, machinery, material handling, fabrication, or a similar manufacturing environment preferred.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to create clear, accurate assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and detail drawings.
- Working knowledge of welded fabrication, machining, sheet metal, purchased components, and practical shop-floor manufacturability.
- Basic understanding of GD&T, engineering drawing standards, and mechanical design principles.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both office and shop-floor personnel. Preferred Experience
- Experience designing conveyors, material handling equipment, wood-processing equipment, or heavy industrial machinery.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, shafts, sprockets, chain drives, belt drives, guarding, and structural weldments.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, bills of materials, and drawing-release processes.
- Experience in a custom equipment or build-to-order manufacturing environment. What We Offer
