Job Title:
Mechanical Drafter Job Description The Mechanical Drafter creates and maintains detailed 3D models of HVAC and plumbing systems using BIM software, with a strong focus on Revit. In this role, you collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to develop accurate, efficient, and fully coordinated building information models. You update models based on field changes, ensure all documentation complies with industry standards and project specifications, and support mechanical design projects from concept through construction documentation. Responsibilities Create and maintain detailed 3D models of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical piping systems using Revit and other BIM tools. Develop coordinated layouts for mechanical, piping, and duct systems that align with overall project design and construction requirements. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and the broader design team to produce accurate and efficient building information models. Coordinate models with other disciplines to ensure model integrity and avoid clashes or conflicts. Update models and drawings based on field changes, design revisions, and feedback from the project team. Ensure all drawings, models, and documentation comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and project specifications. Assist in mechanical design projects using relevant software tools and contribute to the preparation of construction documents. Participate in project meetings to discuss progress, present model updates, and address design or coordination issues. Communicate regularly with the project management team, forepersons, and field personnel to support pre-coordination of work. Perform project setup in Revit, including establishing views, sheets, worksets, and model organization standards. Publish models to STRATUS and support workflows related to fabrication and coordination. Perform QA on your own work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards. Complete CAD-related clerical work such as file organization, plotting, and documentation management. Support plumbing and mechanical pipe modeling efforts and coordinate with fabrication and installation requirements. Essential Skills AutoCAD experience in a drafting or design capacity. Experience with Revit, including 3D modeling for HVAC and plumbing systems. 2+ years of drafting experience in HVAC or mechanical design. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings. Experience with mechanical-piping schematic layouts. Plumbing and mechanical pipe modeling experience. Strong knowledge base of Revit Fabrication MEP. Fundamental knowledge of basic 3D Revit family geometry creation and manipulation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Two-year college degree in CAD, drafting, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience. Background with piping drawings. Oregon Mechanical Code knowledge is a plus. Plumbing code knowledge preferred. Experience with BIM-related tools and platforms such as cloud-based collaboration environments and model coordination software. Experience with Navisworks and model coordination workflows is a plus. Work Environment This position is based in an office environment within a collaborative engineering and CAD department. You work closely with a growing design and BIM team that places a strong emphasis on Revit and continuous learning, including extensive training in Revit and design practices. The office is located in Northwest Portland in a vibrant neighborhood with convenient access to restaurants, breweries, and social spots. The work setting is team-oriented, professional, and technology-driven, with regular interaction across engineering, project management, and field teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
