Piping Designer Job Description The Piping Designer will collaborate with engineers, operators, and safety personnel to convert equipment setups, process concepts, and system changes into precise drawings for operations, reviews, and safety analyses. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented drafter experienced in industrial or process-driven environments who values accurate documentation in ensuring safe and reliable operations. Responsibilities Produce Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 2D layouts, and 3D models using PDMS, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar software. Dimension piping runs and specify pipe classes, valves, fittings, and supports. Collaborate with process engineers to confirm line sizes, operating conditions, and materials of construction. Generate isometric drawings with welding, bending, and fabrication details. Coordinate with structural and civil disciplines to resolve clashes and routing conflicts. Prepare bill of materials (BOM) and support procurement with detailed take-offs. Conduct site walkdowns or field verifications. Essential Skills Expertise in 2D and 3D drafting tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, and MicroStation. 5+ years of experience in a piping designer role, preferably in the nuclear sector, but experience in oil & gas, renewables, or automotive (high voltage systems) is also valuable. Proficient in design and process piping. Additional Skills & Qualifications An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Experience working with Civil 3D and Plant 3D. Preferred candidates will reside in the EST or CT time zones. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Naperville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
