Job Description

Title:
Piping Designer KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) provides holistic and value-added solutions across the entire asset life cycle. These include world-class licensed process technologies, differentiated advisory services, deep technical domain expertise, energy transition solutions, high-end design capabilities, and smart solutions to optimize planned and operating assets. KBR is seeking an experienced Pipe Designer to independently apply advanced engineering principles, exercise sound judgment in resolving complex design challenges, and represent the organization in client engagements to address critical technical issues. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary design teams while also demonstrating the ability to work autonomously to develop technical solutions and deliver high-quality project deliverables. This position is based at a client site in Richmond, Virginia. Work is expected to be performed on-site, except when travel is required to support project needs. Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Lead the design, specification, and engineering services related to piping systems Select appropriate piping materials and components in accordance with client specifications and project requirements Design and select pipe supports in compliance with applicable codes and standards Develop and maintain detailed 3D piping models Produce piping isometrics, pipe support drawings, and layout arrangements directly from the 3D model environment Utilize 3D laser scanning data to support design activities; the ability to independently perform 3D field scanning is preferred Prepare project scopes of work, including piping take-offs, piping lists, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) Respond to technical inquiries related to piping design and constructability Collaborate with client engineers, Process Area Coordinators, and construction leadership to execute design packages for projects under $500K, from Front-End Loading (FEL) through Issued for Construction (IFC) Present piping design solutions during formal client reviews and design meetings Perform field verification to confirm as-built conditions, dimensions, and routing Review vendor-supplied equipment drawings and coordinate follow-up actions as required
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in piping design Advanced academic qualifications are preferred Prior experience supporting piping design activities at industrial or manufacturing facilities is preferred Proficiency in 3D piping design software, specifically AVEVA E3D, is required Proficiency in 2D drafting tools such as MicroStation or AutoCAD is required Demonstrated experience in developing project scopes of work Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% in support of project and client requirements Physical Demands and Work Environment Work is performed at an active operating plant and requires regular exposure to ambient temperature extremes. The role involves frequent walking throughout the plant property, including travel to operating areas and climbing stairs. Employees are required to use and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include fire‑retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, and steel‑toed boots. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include standard office activities such as prolonged periods of sitting and standing, attending meetings, repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse, and frequently lifting or carrying items weighing less than 20 pounds. The position requires moderate physical exertion and, on occasion, may necessitate climbing scaffolding with approved fall‑protection equipment to conduct inspections. Other Relocation assistance may be offered based on the selected candidate's current location. Per diem is not provided for this position.
