Job Description

About the Role LDX Technologies is a vertically integrated, growth-stage manufacturer operating in a highly regulated consumer products sector. Founded six years ago, we hold proprietary patents across our extraction and processing technology and continue to expand operations at our Los Angeles facility. We are hiring a Principal Mechatronics Engineer to own the design, automation, and continuous improvement of our extraction and processing operations end to end. This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary role reporting directly to the COO/CEO. You will set technical direction across mechanical design, controls, software, and process engineering — and you will have the autonomy to do so. We are an open-minded leadership team that values engineers who think rigorously, ship working systems, and improve them in production. What You'll Do Design, build, and continuously improve extraction and processing equipment and the systems around it. Own controls and automation architecture — PLC programming, HMI/SCADA, sensor integration, and safety interlocks. Develop AI and software tooling to optimize yield, throughput, and quality across the process line. Lead electrical design and integration for new equipment installations and facility expansions. Map, model, and optimize end-to-end process flows; identify bottlenecks and engineer them out. Partner with operations, quality, and compliance teams to ensure all systems meet regulatory and safety requirements. Specify and qualify equipment, vendors, and integrators; manage capex projects from concept through commissioning. Document systems clearly so the rest of the team can operate, maintain, and extend what you build. What We're Looking For 10+ years of engineering experience spanning mechanical, electrical, and controls work in a manufacturing or process environment. Demonstrated track record taking automated systems from design through production deployment. Strong PLC and controls experience — ladder logic, structured text, HMI development, and field I/O integration. Working software development skills (Python or equivalent) and exposure to applying ML/AI to industrial or process data. Comfort with electrical schematics, panel design, and the practical side of getting equipment safely powered and wired.
Process design fundamentals:
P&IDs;, mass/energy balances, instrumentation, and unit operations. Ability to work on-site in Los Angeles and move fluidly between the shop floor and the engineering office. Nice to Have Professional Engineer (PE) license. Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Beckhoff control platforms. FANUC robotics experience (programming, integration, or maintenance). Background in solvent-based extraction, distillation, or other regulated processing operations. Experience standing up MES, data historians, or process analytics infrastructure. Why LDX Vertically integrated operations — your work touches the full process, not a sliver of it. Proprietary, patented technology you'll help extend and improve. Direct line to the CEO and COO; decisions get made quickly. Open-minded leadership and team — strong ideas win regardless of where they come from. Real ownership of a discipline at a company that is past the chaotic startup phase but still moving fast. Compensation $275,000-$350,000 base salary, depending on experience. The posted range reflects base compensation only and is provided in accordance with California pay transparency law. Additional details on bonus, equity, and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
