In doing so, we have developed the most advanced sports training machines in the world - the Dr. Dish for basketball, the AirCAT for volleyball, and the Flipsled for strength and conditioning. Job Overview As a Project Engineer, you will serve as the technical integrator for our hardware innovation. You will lead the technical execution of electromechanical products—from the steel frames and motors that drive our machines to the sensors and Bluetooth (BLE) systems that feed our digital training ecosystem. We are looking for a proactive engineer who is equally comfortable reviewing CAD models and troubleshooting firmware-to-app connectivity. You'll work in a small, agile team where your impact is immediate. Key Responsibilities Technical Ownership:
Lead the end-to-end technical lifecycle of electromechanical products, ensuring robust integration between hardware, fi rmware, and software systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to drive technical alignment and project execution. Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Lead the transition from prototype to production, including BOM management, component selection, and supplier coordination.
Validation & Testing:
Develop and execute test plans (stress, lifecycle, and environmental) to validate performance, durability, and reliability.
Sustaining Engineering:
Troubleshoot complex fi eld issues, identify root causes in hardware or fi rmware, and implement iterative improvements to the active product line.
Vendor Management:
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for domestic and international manufacturing partners.
Change Management:
Own engineering change processes (ECRs), ensuring proper documentation, traceability, and cross-functional alignment.
Skills and Qualifications Experience:
5+ years in engineering, with hands-on experience developing electromechanical or connected hardware products (IoT).
Education:
B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Robotics Engineering, or a highly related technical field.
Systems Thinking:
A proven ability to understand how fi rmware, electronics, and mechanical assemblies interact and aff ect one another.
Problem Solving:
Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical issues and develop creative, practical, and data-driven solutions.
Manufacturing Experience:
Hands-on experience with electromechanical manufacturing processes including injection molding, metal fabrication, wire harnessing, and PCB assembly.
Project Leadership:
Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and cross-functional teams without losing sight of technical quality.
Location:
Must be able to work out of our Bloomington, MN offi ce 5 days a week to facilitate hands-on testing, prototyping, and close collaboration with the physical product.
Bonus Qualifications IoT Expertise:
Familiarity with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integration and mobile app-to-hardware communication.
Software Fluency:
Understanding of embedded systems (C/C++) or exposure to mobile environments (Flutter/Dart).
Applied Mathematics:
Strong understanding of dynamic systems, including 3D geometry, projectile motion, and coordinate system transformations.
Robotics:
Experience with robotics or automated systems, including kinematics, motion control, or sensor integration.
Tools:
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with ECAD tools.
Agile Mindset:
Experience working in small, energetic teams using Kanban or Scrum methodologies.
Sports Passion:
