Job Description:
The University at Albany invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. This non-tenure track position focuses on undergraduate instruction, curriculum development, and student mentorship, with no research obligations. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of a newly established and dynamic engineering program emphasizing hands-on, interdisciplinary learning and career readiness. The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University at Albany is within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering. The program emphasizes innovation, applied learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics, and sustainability.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses in mechanical and mechatronics engineering, such as: structural mechanics and CAD Develop and maintain instructional materials, including syllabi, assignments, and lab manuals. Provide academic advising and career mentoring to undergraduate students. Support continuous improvement efforts for curriculum and instruction (e.g., ABET assessment). Participate in department meetings, and service activities such as student recruitment, and outreach activities. Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote an inclusive and student-centered learning environment.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to Dept Chair May supervise as assigned: Teaching Assistants and/or Student Assistants
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree by start date in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related area degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2026. Evidence of ability to teach undergraduate courses in mechanical/mechatronics (lecture and/or lab), demonstrated by at least one of the following: Prior service as Instructor of Record (provide course number and term), Teaching Assistant role with documented responsibilities (e.g., leading labs/discussions, grading) and student/peer evaluations, Guest lectures/workshops delivered in relevant subjects (slides or recording), A teaching portfolio sample (e.g., syllabus, assignment/lab write-up, grading rubric, or short teaching demo video?=10 min), Formal training/certification in college teaching or pedagogy. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering by 8/15/2026. Experience teaching lab-based or project-based courses. Knowledge of ABET accreditation and assessment processes. Experience in academic advising or student mentoring. Prior experience in industry, especially in mechanical design, automation, or controls, is a plus.
Working Environment:
This position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities. Travel within New York State and beyond may be necessary.
