Job Description

Geotechnical Engineer (P.E.)Position Overview We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Civil Engineering with strong geotechnical experience to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The Geotechnical Engineer will lead subsurface investigations, analyze soil and groundwater conditions, develop foundation and earthwork recommendations, and provide technical oversight on projects from planning through construction. The role requires strong project management skills, clear technical writing, and the ability to collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to deliver safe, cost-effective geotechnical solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage geotechnical engineering projects including site investigations, laboratory testing programs, data analysis, and reporting.

Develop geotechnical conceptual models, perform soil mechanics and slope stability analyses, and provide foundation, retaining wall, and earthwork design recommendations.

Prepare clear, concise geotechnical engineering reports, technical specifications, and construction observation and testing plans.

Serve as the client-facing technical lead: present findings, respond to requests for information, and support proposals and scope development.

Coordinate and oversee field programs including drilling, sampling, in-situ testing (SPT, CPT), and groundwater monitoring.

Provide engineering support during construction, including site visits, observation, and resolution of geotechnical issues.

Apply risk assessment and value-engineering principles to develop practical, constructible designs that meet schedule and budget constraints.

Mentor junior engineers and technicians, review their work, and promote best practices in safety, quality control, and documentation.

Collaborate with structural, environmental, and civil teams to integrate geotechnical recommendations into overall project design and permitting deliverables.

Use engineering software and tools (including AutoCAD and slope stability or finite element programs) to produce design calculations and drawings.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering; MS in Geotechnical Engineering or related field preferred.

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in relevant U.S. state required.

Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering and foundation design, preferably with a mix of site investigation and construction phase work.

Demonstrated project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, client communication, and team leadership.

Strong technical knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation systems, slope stability analysis, groundwater management, and construction materials behavior.

Experience with site investigation techniques, field testing (SPT, CPT), laboratory testing, and instrumentation.

Proven ability to produce high-quality geotechnical reports, specifications, and construction observation documentation.

Familiarity with engineering geology, environmental engineering considerations, and regulatory permitting processes.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and geotechnical analysis software; experience with finite element or slope stability programs is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.

Willingness to conduct field work and travel to project sites as required.
