The Office of the City Engineer is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join the Vertical Project Management Section. In this role, you will manage and coordinate all phases of design and construction for Capital Improvement Projects that support a wide range of City departments, including the Phoenix Convention Center, Office of Arts and Culture, Parks and Recreation, Library, Police, Fire, Public Works, and others. The successful candidate will oversee professional service contracts and construction delivery methods such as Job Order Contracting (JOC), Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). You will guide projects from concept through completion, ensuring they meet City standards, budget goals, and operational needs. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the planning, design, and construction of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building infrastructure. You will also develop and implement City Building Standards and department-specific design criteria used for new construction, renovations, and facility expansions. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the City's built environment while contributing to projects that directly serve Phoenix employees, residents and visitors. Responsibilities include and are not limited to: Negotiate the scope of work and fee proposals with professional firms and contractors. Work with professional firms to design plans for mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for public buildings. Analyze and evaluate building energy consumption and recommend ways to conserve energy. Review and evaluate mechanical design drawings and specifications. Consult with inspectors and advise on problems with work in progress. Attend and observe construction in progress and provide final inspections and acceptance or rejection of completed work. Develop and implement plans for maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. Investigate equipment failures and recommend remedial actions. Collaborate with other design disciplines to develop integrated design solutions. Manage multiple design and construction projects.IDEAL CANDIDATE

$102,668.80- $137,592 annually.

Four years of mechanical engineering experience. One year of supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds long distances (more than 20 feet). Bending or stooping repeatedly or continually, such as performing inspections and repairs. Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes, such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. Walking or standing for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Flexibility and reliability in working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Some projects may involve climbing roof ladders and evaluating mechanical equipment in confined spaces.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three to four years of relevant project management experience (HVAC, controls, ventilation, and plumbing, etc.). Registered as a Professional Engineer with proficiency in Mechanical Engineering at time of hire, with registration in the State of Arizona obtained by the end of the probationary period.Experience with/in:
Monitoring & administering design and construction contracts. The design of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection plans for buildings. Contract negotiations and plan review.
