Job Description
Project Geologist - Licensed Project Geologist The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in soil and rock mechanics, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities Perform geotechnical and geological investigations, including preliminary and forensic evaluations Conduct field inspections, testing, and construction observations as required Analyze geotechnical data and prepare engineering reports related to soil conditions, slope stability, and foundation recommendations Develop engineering recommendations, plans, specifications, and technical documentation Review plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and project requirements Manage projects from proposal development through project completion, including scheduling and budget tracking Prepare cost estimates and technical proposals Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and regulatory agencies Provide technical guidance and resolve design and construction-related issues Review and evaluate laboratory and field testing data for report inclusion Participate in project meetings and maintain effective client communication Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and applicable California codes Perform additional duties as assigned by management Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline Active professional licensure in California preferred: Geotechnical Engineer (GE) Professional Geologist (PG) Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) Candidates licensed in another state must be able to obtain California licensure within one year of hire Minimum 5 years of professional experience in geotechnical or geological engineering Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geotechnical engineering principles Experience with commercial geotechnical engineering software Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Skills & Competencies Knowledge of California Building Code (CBC), California Residential Code (CRC), and local jurisdictional requirements Experience with construction inspection and project management Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schematics Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Work Environment This role requires the ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and work independently within established guidelines.
