Headquartered in Stockton, California, we provide civil engineering, structural engineering, landscape architecture, survey, and geotechnical engineering services for private and public sector clients. We are the selected and premier service provider on major healthcare and infrastructure projects in the area for all disciplines. Geotechnical laboratory services are performed in the Sacramento office. We are seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Engineer I or II to support our growing Geotechnical Department in our Stockton or Sacramento office. What You'll Do This is a hands-on geotechnical engineering role for a doer who takes direct responsibility for field support, pre-field exploration planning, data collection, testing coordination, analysis, and report preparation that support design and construction recommendations. The ideal candidate will produce high-quality work, coordinate effectively with laboratory staff and the geotechnical team, and contribute directly to investigations and deliverables rather than primarily delegating tasks. This position reports to the Geotechnical Department Principal. In general, the duties of this position consist of, but not limited to, the following tasks: Field - Phase of Projects Pre-field exploration activities including permit procurement, preparing work plans, coordination with drilling/CPT/backhoe subconsultants, utility clearance with USA and coordination with private utility locators During drilling operations, prepare boring logs and record N-values, label and identify samples, classify soils per the USCS and rock per requirements, document drilling and excavation conditions, collect bulk, SPT, and mod Cal samples, and transport to the laboratory. During CPT operations, observe penetration and collect data from the CPT vendor, determine locations for pore pressure dissipation tests and ensure the test achieves equilibrium conditions prior to terminating the test During pavement coring projects, oversee core operations Assign geotechnical laboratory testing appropriate for the conditions and application. Perform geotechnical laboratory testing (i.e., index testing, strength testing, and volume testing) and analyze data for use in geotechnical design Identify the generalized geotechnical profile and select geotechnical parameters for use in analysis and design Laboratory Testing Perform basic to intermediate geotechnical analyses (i.e., bearing capacity, settlement, flexible and rigid pavements, lateral earth pressures) Prepare geotechnical reports that describe field explorations performed, site and subsurface soil and groundwater conditions, geologic and seismic hazards. Identify undocumented fill and expansive soil conditions, soft, compressible soil, and material that would be susceptible to liquefaction Prepare boring logs in geotechnical software, and plates and figures in AutoCAD/Civil3D Perform field site visits and compaction/sand cone testing (as necessary). Observe shallow and deep foundation excavations and installation Observe ground improvement installation Geotechnical Engineering Experience in the geotechnical design of Commercial, Industrial, and Public Infrastructure Buildings using the California Building Code Analysis and interpretation of laboratory test results Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products Experience with one or more of the following is desirable, but not necessarily required for the position - cLiq, CPeT-IT, Slope/W, Seep/W, Slide, RS Pile, LPile An ability to professionally communicate with clients, technical staff, and management What We're Looking For A successful candidate should have: BS Civil Engineering with geotechnical engineering coursework preferred A minimum of 0 to 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience An ability to lift up to 30 lbs Why Join Siegfried?
