Position Summary This role is responsible for overseeing both field and laboratory operations to support geotechnical engineering and construction services. The ideal candidate will ensure high-quality data collection, reporting, and coordination across field technicians, laboratory staff, and project teams. This person will report to the Geotechnical Department Principal. What You'll Do In general, the duties of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following tasks: Provide oversight and direction to field technicians and inspectors Review, compile, and submit daily field reports to construction teams
  • Serve as the first point of contact for field-related inquiries
  • Visit project sites as needed to verify subsurface and surface conditions
  • Prepare completion reports for client submittals Prepare grading letters for review by the Geotechnical Engineer of Record (GEOR)
  • Perform duties associated with Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), including monitoring and tracking nuclear gauge usage Supervise laboratory technicians and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet workload demands Schedule laboratory testing and oversee data entry and report review
  • Data entry and review laboratory test reports
  • Compile laboratory test reports for submittal in completion reports or geotechnical reports
  • Maintain and update the Quality Systems Manual in coordination with the Engineering Manager Ensure laboratory calibrations, certifications, and regulatory compliance are current Coordinate with regulatory agencies for laboratory accreditation and evaluations Prepare and submit daily reports documenting observations, testing, and sampling within one business day of field activities
  • Indicates work that requires utilization (approximately 90 percent of working time) What We're Looking For ICC Soils Special Inspector & ACI Aggregate Base Testing Technician certifications preferred or expected to apply for certifications withing one year of hire.
Nuclear gauge certification and Radiation Safety training (e.g., APNGA) required; training will be provided Strong ability to work independently while collaborating with the Engineering Manager Ability to analyze and interpret laboratory test results. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients, technical staff, and internal teams Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds (samples or lab/field testing equipment) Experience Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and/or Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in geotechnical laboratory or field testing.
