With minimal oversight, delivers high-quality engineering solutions tailored to meet evolving client needs and project demands. Ensures design integrity and compliance by rigorously reviewing and approving technical work to align with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as firm standards and best practices. Upholds operational excellence across all deliverables. Brings designs to life in the field through site evaluations, technical studies, and real-time adjustments to ensure solutions are optimized for location-specific conditions. Conducts soil sampling, advanced analyses, and modeling to inform accurate, data-driven decisions. Shapes industry thought leadership by producing white papers, technical documentation, and publishable content for leading journals—advancing the firm's technical knowledge and reputation in specialized design areas. Partners with business development teams to craft compelling, competitive proposals for current and prospective clients. Ensures every submission reflects technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strategic positioning. Builds lasting client relationships by engaging directly with stakeholders to understand needs, present solutions, and position the firm as a trusted advisor. Actively represents the firm at conferences and industry events, elevating visibility and market presence. Leads, mentors, and develops talent by providing technical guidance, hands-on training, and career development support to junior engineers. Inspires the next generation while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment, including oversight of project work when needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Certification/License Requirements Professional Engineer Preferred Qualifications Registered G.E. Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering Registered P.Eng in British Columbia Experience working on Dams/ Levee projects Amount of Travel Required 10% Skills and Abilities Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for this position based on the geographic location assigned to the position. Please note that pay ranges vary based on geographic location. In addition to geographic location, the company considers several other factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, the candidate's work experience, education/training and key skills. Additional Compensation All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
