Job Description

Geotechnical Engineer -
NashvilleLocation:
Nashville, Tennessee A respected, nationally recognised, employee‑owned engineering firm is seeking a Mid‑Level Geotechnical Engineer to support continued growth in its Nashville office while collaborating across a strong national platform.

This opportunity is well suited for an experienced geotechnical or foundation engineer who is looking for technically challenging work, long‑term stability, and a genuine ownership culture, without the bureaucracy often associated with large consulting organisations.

About the OrganisationThe firm is a U.S.‑based engineering consultancy with approximately 1,000 professionals nationwide, specialising in geotechnical, dam, tunnel, and large‑scale infrastructure engineering. It has delivered consistent double‑digit growth for more than a decade and maintains a strong reputation for solving complex infrastructure problems where quality and engineering judgement are paramount.

Despite its national scale, the organisation operates with a tight‑knit, collaborative culture, emphasizing technical excellence, accountability, and long‑term partnerships with clients. Projects are pursued and delivered on the basis of expertise rather than lowest fee.

Why This Opportunity Stands OutThis role consistently appeals to experienced engineers who are selective about where they invest their careers.

Key highlights include:

Long‑term stability and growth: Proven 10%+ annual growth across multiple infrastructure sectorsEmployee ownership: A 100% employee‑owned structure with an industry‑leading ESOP (approximately 10% company‑funded annual contribution)Strong total rewards: Competitive compensation, annual bonus program, ESOP, and comprehensive benefitsHybrid work environment: Flexibility combined with meaningful team collaborationNational project exposure: Access to complex, high‑profile infrastructure work without excessive corporate layersQuality‑driven culture: Competes on technical strength and reputation, not lowest costRole OverviewThe Mid‑Level Geotechnical Engineer will play a key technical role supporting a growing southeastern practice while working closely with specialists across the firm's U.S. offices.

The position offers exposure to large, technically complex infrastructure projects, opportunities to mentor junior staff, and direct interaction with project stakeholders, without being locked into a narrow production role.

Key ResponsibilitiesPerform geotechnical analysis and design for foundations, earth structures, slopes, excavation support, and ground improvementSupport projects involving dams, tunnels, mining, data centres, transportation, water, and other mission‑critical infrastructurePrepare high‑quality technical reports, calculations, and design documentationProvide construction‑phase engineering support, observations, and evaluationsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple officesAssist with project planning, scopes, schedules, and budgetsMentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, quality‑focused cultureCommunicate clearly and effectively with clients, contractors, and project partners
Required and Preferred QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred)Approximately 7-12 years of geotechnical or foundation engineering experienceExperience working on complex or large‑scale civil or infrastructure projectsStrong written and verbal communication skillsProfessional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtainPractical, solutions‑oriented approach to engineering challenges
Preferred:
Experience with dams, tunnels, mission‑critical facilities, mining, or major infrastructureBackground with a well‑regarded regional or national engineering consultancyInterest in long‑term technical leadership and mentoringHow This Role Compares to Typical Consulting PositionsMany experienced engineers reach a point where they want more influence, broader responsibility, and long‑term alignment, not just another project assignment.

This role offers meaningful involvement in technically demanding projects, early visibility into decision‑making, and a clear path toward increased responsibility. The employee‑owned structure creates a direct link between individual contribution and long‑term financial upside, which is a major differentiator compared to traditional bonus‑only consulting models.
