Job Title:
Certified Welding Inspector Job Description We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for a major construction initiative at a new campus in Lebanon, IN. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position requiring full-time commitment, with potential for overtime. The inspector will be responsible for ensuring all structural steel welding activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and specifications, working closely with the onsite Quality Manager and construction teams to uphold safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Conduct visual inspections of structural steel welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 and project specifications. Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material compliance. Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols. Monitor joint preparation, fit-up, and welding techniques. Perform or coordinate non-destructive testing (NDT) as needed. Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports. Communicate discrepancies and corrective actions to project stakeholders. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and site-specific requirements. Essential Skills AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is mandatory. Strong understanding of welding processes and inspections. Ability to read and interpret construction documents and welding symbols. Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and other relevant codes. Current OSHA 10 certification is highly preferred. Experience with structural steel inspection in large-scale construction projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector certification will be considered in place of CWI-AWS. Knowledge of NDT methods and inspection tools. Current CCS Card (Coalition of Construction Safety) is advantageous. Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions. Work Environment This position is based on a large-scale construction project for a new campus in Lebanon, IN. The role requires working full-time, 8-10 hour days, with potential for 40-50+ hours per week, including weekends. Candidates must be local or within a commutable distance, as there is no relocation assistance, hotel, or per diem provided. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
