Fox Laboratory by engineering specialized research equipment. The position is focused on the mechanical, vacuum and cryogenic systems around the 9-Million-Volt Tandem accelerator facility and the superconducting linear accelerator.
Responsibilities include:
Diagnosing the operational performance of the 9-Million-Volt Tandem accelerator facility and maintenance, repair and design (using computer-aided design (CAD) software) of upgrades to the accelerator's unique mechanical systems. This includes the unique high-voltage-charging systems, beam lines, ion-beam-control systems and SF6 gas-transfer systems. Diagnosing the operational performance of the one-of-a-kind cryogenic and mechanical systems around the superconducting linear accelerator and liquid-helium cryoplant. Responsible for the maintenance, repair and mechanical design (using CAD software) of upgrades to the accelerator's cryogenic and mechanical systems, including the cryogenic distribution system, cryostat mechanical systems, and high-pressure gas transfer systems. Planning, engineering, testing, and evaluating complex designs to meet scientific and research needs. Managing the workflow in these projects and coordinating with the physics department mechanic shops to ensure proper execution of projects. Performing as a high vacuum, cryogenic, Tungsten Inert Gas (TlG) welding specialist. Responsible for high vacuum welding on vacuum and cryogenic assemblies around the accelerators of the Fox Lab. Working directly with research and scientific personnel on design concepts and specifications to meet scientific and research needs. This includes preparing, testing, and evaluating plans and specifications of equipment designed to meet these needs. Qualifications A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (
