Job Description
Holtec International, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for the nuclear, solar, geothermal and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry, is seeking to add an Electrical Engineer to their SMR-300 engineering team. The Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of safety and non-safety related I&C systems for the SMR-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR), regularly interfacing with the mechanical, nuclear, and electrical engineering teams for I&C design and consultation. This I&C Engineer applies his or her knowledge and experience, industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes and standards, and good engineering judgment to ensure the design is compliant with International regulatory criteria and industry best practices.
Primary responsibilities:
I&C System design including: Requirements development
Design specification development
tpoint, loop calibration, and instrument calibration tolerances
Perform instrument vendor selection and vetting
System analysis
Licensing conformance evaluations
Read, interpret and develop logic diagrams
Perform I&C calculations
Process Controls design including:
Develop Control System Descriptions for plant systems
Review and provide I&C insight into P&ID development
Read, interpret and develop logic diagrams, Instrument, and I/O Lists
Support Human Factors analysis of plant systems.
Perform sizing and specifying I&C (transmitters, operators, control valves, switches, etc.) equipment
Perform I&C calculations: setpoint, loop calibration, and instrument calibration tolerances
Perform instrument vendor selection and vetting Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, I&C, or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university.
5-7 years of relevant experience.
Proficient in I&C design, calculations, and system integration; able to mentor junior engineers.
Writes comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and procedures with minimal oversight.
Communicates effectively with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients.
Exercises good judgment in problem-solving, balancing technical accuracy with project constraints.
Independently organizes, plans, and executes assignments; manages small work packages.
Flexible and adaptable in complex or shifting project conditions.
Provides guidance and constructive feedback to junior engineers. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred.
5-7 years of demonstrated I&C system design experience in nuclear or fossil power generation.
Proficiency designing and integrating systems such as neutron flux monitoring, plant protection, control rod drive, radiation monitoring.
Experience supporting Human Factors analysis of plant systems.
Familiarity with Cyber Security requirements for nuclear facilities (10 CFR 73.54, RG 5.71).
Demonstrated involvement in commissioning or tuning integrated plant control systems.
Practical application of licensing standards and regulatory processes.
Proficient in applying industry codes and standards (IEEE, IEC, EPRI, ANSI, ISA, IAEA). A Generation Ahead by Design™Investing in people who power the future. Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $105,000.00-$125,000.00
