Greenville, SC Position Overview Responsible for creating design solutions for the design development of various reactor structures and components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. The Certifying Engineer will prepare, review, and certify Design Specifications and Design Reports in accordance with ASME Section III requirements, while supporting licensing, compliance, and customer deliverables. Reports to the Reactor Enclosure System Component Manager and works as part of a high-functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on next-generation advanced nuclear reactors. Responsibilities Certification of Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear supports and/or nuclear pressure-retaining components Serve as the Certifying Engineer for submittals, including applying professional engineering judgment and signing certifications where required Maintain current knowledge of ASME Section III updates, industry standards, and best practices Design of reactor structures and components from requirements through final design Coordinate inputs and requirements from Engineering and Project teams to produce equipment and component design solutions Perform scoping analysis and calculations for design options Interface with the team's engineering analysis activities Technically manage supplier activities Present equipment and component design results for design reviews Interface with junior engineers and subcontractors, providing direction and mentoring Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices; proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Minimum 8 years of equipment/component design experience (relevant M.S. degree credited as 2 years of experience) Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III Demonstrated experience certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear pressure-retaining components Deep understanding of ASME Section III, NQA-1, and related NRC regulations Experience writing design specifications Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with Generation IV advanced reactor design Familiarity with nuclear licensing processes and NRC regulatory framework Experience managing supplier technical activities on nuclear projects Background mentoring or leading junior engineers in a nuclear design environment Additional Information U.S. Citizenship required.
