Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Safety Engineer Intern to support projects involving NRC licensing, nuclear criticality safety (NCS), and safety basis development. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, safety analysis, and engineering support within nuclear facilities and fuel cycle operations.
The intern will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and subject matter experts to contribute to licensing submittals, criticality safety evaluations, and safety basis documentation supporting Department of Energy (DOE) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulated activities.
Primary Responsibilities may include:
Support preparation and review of NRC licensing documentation, including license applications, amendments, and regulatory correspondence
Assist in development of nuclear criticality safety evaluations (NCSEs) and supporting analyses
Contribute to safety basis documentation, including: Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), Safety Analysis Reports (SARs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs)
Perform supporting calculations and evaluations related to criticality safety limits and controls and hazard and accident analysis
Assist with hazard identification and evaluation techniques
Conduct research on NRC regulations, DOE Orders, and applicable industry standards
Support development of engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
If pursuing a Bachelor's degree, currently enrolled in junior or senior year
Basic understanding of nuclear engineering principles and safety fundamentals
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, highly regulated environment
