Probabilistic Safety Analysis Engineer I- New Nuclear SGS_JOB_3780 Business Support Washington Probabilistic Nuclear Safety Contract - 12
Months Location :
Richland, WA, 99354 A Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) Engineer works on evaluating and improving the safety of nuclear power systems using risk-based methods. The role involves analyzing potential hazards, supporting reactor design and construction, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to the safe operation of advanced nuclear technologies
Job Responsibilities:
Perform complex Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) studies. Conduct hazard, consequence, and defense-in-depth evaluations for nuclear systems. Support design reviews, construction activities, and advanced reactor development projects. Assist with site licensing and construction permit processes. Interpret and apply regulations from authorities like the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and industry bodies (NEI, EPRI). Provide engineering support for operations, system assessments, audits, and inspections. Identify design or operational issues and recommend corrective actions. Lead or support technical problem-solving using innovative engineering approaches. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to other engineers. Contribute to development of policies, procedures, and engineering programs. Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in project planning, scheduling, and timeline reviews.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) methodologies and standards (e.g., ASME/ANS
RA-S-1.4
). PRA model development Initiating event analysis Event sequence analysis Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis Understanding of nuclear reactor design, especially advanced reactors (e.g., High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactors). Knowledge of transient and accident analysis and radioactive source term evaluation. Ability to use and interpret PSA/PRA simulation tools and codes. Familiarity with Seismic PRA and Fire PRA. Knowledge of NRC regulations, NEI, and EPRI guidelines.
