FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILIES
Design and develop optical components and systems used in new programs, existing products, associated test equipment, and assembly fixtures. Apply optics and photonics knowledge to optical component development, including design, analysis, and validation of reflective optics. Investigate new technologies as applicable to current and future products Assist with development of manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication processes Perform job duties in a manner that maintains compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform complex problem solving, testing, and troubleshooting of optical systems for multiple products over moderate to long time frames Define specification, sourcing, and fabrication of optical components (lenses, prisms, mirrors, etc). Experience with testing and alignment of lens components and systems is preferred Collaborate with other engineering and technical personnel regarding fabrication and testing of prototype systems, and modify designs as required All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Certification:
Required:
BS or MS in engineering or physics
Preferred:
BS in optical engineering
Experience Required:
BS +2 years, in optical design/ development Expertise with sequential optical design software (Zemax, CodeV, etc) Experience in the use of optics and electronics test equipment, e.g. oscilloscopes, power meters, beam profile diagnostics, etc.
Experience Desired:
Experience with optomechanical design and assembly, including 3D CAD (Solidworks, etc)
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques Strong mathematical, mechanical, and problem-solving abilities Strong written and oral communications skills to prepare documentation such as: Technical Reports Design Reviews Test Procedures Enthusiastic, self-motivated team player
