Job Description

The Optical Fabrication Engineer will be responsible for developing processes for optical machinery and showcasing our processing technologies. Provide advanced level guidance to optimize the efficiency of the machines to deliver high quality results. Will work directly with our customers throughout North and South America. Will visit our factory sites in Europe for additional projects or training.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop and document processes for optical machinery. Design, test and produce prototypes utilizing the onsite application lab. Install optical processing machinery programming and specific customer program requirements. Collaborate with representatives from the Germany-based factory to provide advanced level support to customers. Work with customers to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and precision optical issues. Evaluate established processes for continuous improvement and increased production. Identify root cause of complex system function failures and implement corrective actions. Provide diagnosis analysis, technical risks and consultation for the implementation of solutions. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting CNC machinery preferred (e.g. milling, grinding, or polishing machines).
  • Strong optical theory knowledge to refine optical designs and processes.
  • Proficient in centering of optics and precision optical measurements.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic schematic diagrams.
  • Experience/education in PLC programming is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, excelling in problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient knowledge for Microsoft Office Suite, computer-based applications, and remote support applications (Team Viewer, etc.
)
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree with a mechanical, electrical or optical focus preferred or related program and/or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience working with optical machinery, preferred.
Travel:
  • Minimum of 50% travel domestically and internationally to support installations, troubleshooting, customer training, and trade shows.
Work Environment:
It is a traveling role with time spent in an office, manufacturing environment, and precision optics laboratory. Frequent computer-based work requires prolonged sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing acuity and ability to communicate with others effectively. Manual dexterity and hand eye coordination for typing, filing and utilization of office equipment. Mobility to move around the office, manufacturing environment and equipment as needed.
  • Frequent activity, the incumbent will be required to stoop, bend, stand or reach above the shoulders.
  • The employee must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
