M-F, standard business hours Job#: 18989 Role Overview Seeking an Electro-Optical Engineer to support the development, testing, and prototyping of advanced optical communication and sensing systems. This role focuses on building and evaluating high-performance technologies across a range of environments, including terrestrial and space-based applications. The engineer will contribute to research and development efforts involving optical transmission systems, photonic components, and high-speed communication links. This includes working with advanced modulation techniques, precision optical systems, and emerging technologies. The role also involves hands-on prototype development and participation in testing efforts to validate performance and inform future system designs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and test optical communication systems and subsystems, including transmitters, receivers, and supporting components Work with fiber-optic and electro-optic technologies to build and evaluate high-speed communication links Develop and execute test plans using optical and electronic instrumentation to validate system performance Analyze and interpret test data to support system improvements and design decisions Develop automated test systems and tools using MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, or similar platforms Perform hands-on integration, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of optical and electronic subsystems Prototype and evaluate hardware components to support system development and validation Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine system requirements and support prototype-to-deployment efforts Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field 5+ years of experience developing high-speed optical transceivers and automated test systems 8+ years of experience working with electro-optical test instrumentation and laboratory environments 8+ years of hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, and repairing complex subsystems Strong understanding of fiber-optic and electro-optic components and systems (8+ years preferred) 8+ years of experience working with optical communications hardware and systems 5+ years of experience prototyping and evaluating hardware components Experience with laser characterization equipment and optical measurement techniques Strong understanding of optical principles, including polarization and fiber-based systems 5+ years of experience with scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++, or similar) Preferred Qualifications Experience with advanced electro-optical systems or next-generation photonic technologies Familiarity with emerging quantum-enabled devices or systems Experience developing hardware in research environments and transitioning to production Ability to implement and operate communication testbeds based on high-level system requirements Experience specifying optical components and subsystems for R D environments Proficiency with Python in a Linux environment Please use the apply button to submit your resume for consideration.
