Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default The impact you will make As a Senior Experimental Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in translating scientific objectives into practical, high quality experimental hardware, diagnostics and workflows. You will ensure that technical developments for experiments are executed with clarity, rigor, repeatability and technical excellence. Your role sits at the intersection of engineering discipline and scientific curiosity. It requires an understanding of experimental fusion/ laser matter/ plasma environments, hands-on capability with experimental hardware and the ability to guide a team towards rapidly developing solutions for evolving scientific needs. Your responsibilities Partner with scientists and technical leads to interpret experimental objectives and guide them in translating them into experimental setups and diagnostic systems
Lead hands-on technical execution of the design, implementation and commissioning of experimental hardware, working alongside the team while setting technical direction and standards
Mentor and coach engineers in experimental methods, alignment practices, calibration strategies and disciplined troubleshooting approaches
Enable rapid R D iteration by pragmatic design choices, risk-aware prototyping and fast learning cycles
Define and maintain documentation standards for experiment hardware and diagnostic instruments, including procedures, alignment methods, calibration routines and safe operating practices, with an emphasis on clarity and usability
Bridge physics and engineering perspectives by translating scientific requirements into clear engineering principles, constraints and acceptance criteria
Lead structured problem-solving efforts for complex system issues, e.g., supporting engineers in root-cause analysis or other processes What you bring BSc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
5+ years of experience in experimental engineering or diagnostics within complex scientific or industrial environments
Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts and mentor engineers in hands-on experimental work
Strong foundation in experimental hardware, alignment, calibration and instrumentation, with the judgment to guide others
Experience working across mechanical, electrical, software and physics domains
Clear, structured communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority What sets you apart Experience with fusion experiments, plasma diagnostics, laser systems or particle accelerator environments
Background in optics, imaging, high-speed data acquisition or precision instrumentation
Familiarity with simulation or modeling tools used to inform experiment design
