Salary:
$126,657.91 - $161,656.29 plus $35,000 Hiring Bonus The City of Madera is seeking a Deputy City Engineer. Working under the general direction of the City Engineer, this position oversees professional and technical staff while ensuring safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and strong engineering standards across all assigned projects. The ideal Deputy City Engineer is an experienced civil engineering professional and collaborative leader with strong technical expertise in municipal infrastructure design, construction, and inspection. This individual brings proven experience managing engineering teams, overseeing complex capital projects, and navigating public-sector contract and procurement processes, including bid development, contract administration, and adherence to government regulations and standards. They excel at reviewing plans, coordinating with contractors and partner agencies, resolving technical challenges with sound judgment, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, codes, and policies. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role requires preparing reports, presenting recommendations to City leadership, and fostering effective relationships with staff, developers, community groups, and elected officials. Organized, solutions-oriented, and grounded in public-sector best practices, the ideal candidate is committed to supporting the City's mission through safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure management.
