Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Substation Field Engineer (Intermediate Professional/Staff Engineer) for our client's primary offices in Amarillo, Texas, Lubbock, Texas, and Denver, Colorado.   • This Opportunity
  • Provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector.
Tasks may include assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, as well as protection and control systems in a wide variety of contexts (utilities, transportation, building, and Federal, State, and local government projects). Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

  • + Apply foundational engineering knowledge to support projects under the guidance of senior engineers, following established standards, procedures, and best practices.
+ Assist with design and engineering assignments, including calculations, drawings, material selection, and evaluation of equipment and systems. + Support project execution by coordinating with internal team members and external partners as directed by senior engineering staff. + Contribute to projects of small to moderate size and complexity while developing core engineering competencies for this role. + Prepare and update technical documentation such as calculations, drawings, test data, reports, and specifications with review and approval from senior engineers. + Provide engineering support to Operations, Maintenance, Testing/Diagnostics, and Regulatory activities as assigned. + Assist with field engineering activities including site visits, inspections, installation support, testing, commissioning, and issue resolution under supervision. + Support senior engineers by conducting technical research, data collection, and analysis related to design requirements and field applications. + Help verify site conditions and assist with resolving engineering, construction, and maintenance questions encountered in the field. + Participate in risk identification activities by providing input, analysis, and documentation support related to design and construction activities. + Collaborate with cross functional teams such as project controls, construction, procurement, permitting, and document control to support project delivery. + Assist with work planning, field coordination, and permitting documentation as directed. + Complete required technical, safety, and role specific training to support professional development. + Participate in field engineering on call support on a limited or rotational basis, as experience and qualifications allow (typically once every eight weeks). + Perform additional duties as assigned to support business and project needs. + Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. + Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • Required Qualifications
  • + Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
+ 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity. + Basic exposure to engineering operations and project controls concepts to support reporting, tracking, and coordination of project activities. + Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and design/build concepts, with the ability to apply them to permitting and project related tasks under supervision. + Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, rehabilitation, and construction support for new and existing facilities. + Working knowledge of applicable engineering and electrical construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, with guidance from senior engineers. + Strong analytical skills with the ability to follow engineering processes, evaluate information, and apply sound judgment to routine engineering decisions. + Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to both engineering and non engineering team members. + Demonstrated ability to manage assignments with attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and prioritization in a fast paced environment. + Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a project team to meet project objectives. + Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation tools, spreadsheets, engineering calculations, and standard software applications. + Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. + Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. + Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • + Engineer in Training Certification.
+ Prior design experience. + A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $67,600 - $111,650 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law. \#LI-WG1
