Job Description
Supports activities associated with the installation and testing of protective relays and control equipment in the corporation's transmission substation facilities. Provides technical support and expertise for the troubleshooting and maintenance of protection and control equipment. This position will also lead the development of testing standards, policies, and procedures for transmission protective relaying for the test group. The Transmission Support Engineer will assist in developing and revising the Protection System and Maintenance Program (PSMP) and transmission relaying corporate standards. The Transmission Support Engineer will also ensure that replacement relays, monitoring equipment, meters, etc. meet all standards and assist in developing standards related to transmission monitoring equipment as needed.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical preferred), other Engineering degree acceptable with emphasis on electrical engineering studies. Other degrees see Equivalent Experience.Experience:
E-IV - Six years (four years with P.E.) of substation test or protection support engineer experience. E-V - Eight years (Six years with P.E.) of substation test or protection support engineer experience. E-VI - Ten years (Eight years with P.E.) of substation test or protection support engineer experience.Equivalent Experience:
E-IV Bachelor of Science Degree - Technical (8 years of experience), or Bachelor of Science Degree or Other (9 years of experience). Associates Degree Technical (10 years of experience), or Non-degree with experience as Test Technician or Substation Maintenance (14 years of experience). E-V - Bachelor of Science Degree - Technical (10 years of experience) or Bachelor of Science Degree or Other (11 years of experience). Associates Degree Technical (12 years of experience) or Non-degree with experience as Test Technician or Substation Maintenance (16 years of experience). E-VI - Bachelor of Science Degree - Technical (12 years of experience), or Bachelor of Science Degree or Other (13 years of experience). Associates Degree Technical (14 years of experience) or Non-degree with experience as Test Technician or Substation Maintenance (18 years of experience). Licenses, Certifications and/orRegistrations:
Obtaining or actively pursuing a Professional Engineer License. Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.): Working knowledge of using a laptop and relay test equipment to calibrate protective relays and metering panels. Must have the ability to read substation protection and control prints and equipment schematics. Must be proficient with ITS high voltage switching rules and procedures, performing switching, troubleshooting protection schemes, and reading currents. Must be able to pass aNERC CIP
