5+ years of engineering experience supporting mechanical, process, utility, district energy, or power systems. Experience supporting the operation, troubleshooting, optimization, and capital projects of utility systems, central plants, district energy systems, CHP facilities, or similar industrial/process facilities. Working knowledge of chilled water, steam, heat exchangers, pumps, and other utility plant equipment.
Job Summary :
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the operation, optimization, expansion, and reliability of a district energy system serving customers throughout the Chicago area. This role will support customer energy transfer station projects, system performance analysis, capital improvements, and new customer initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical engineering background, project execution experience, and the ability to work effectively with operations, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Monitor, troubleshoot, and support the repair and optimization of customer energy transfer station equipment, instrumentation, and control systems. Design, plan, budget, and manage refurbishment and capital improvement projects for customer facilities and utility infrastructure. Support new construction projects, system expansions, and customer connection initiatives. Perform engineering analyses and provide technical support for business development activities, including feasibility studies and technology assessments. Analyze metered data and system performance to support billing, forecasting, and operational improvements. Interface with customers, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding technical issues, permitting, and project execution. Prepare reports, operating summaries, and other technical documentation to support company objectives.
Job Requirements :
Strong understanding of mechanical and utility systems, including chilled water, steam, pumps, heat exchangers, and process systems. Experience managing engineering or capital projects from planning through execution. Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, AFT Fathom, control systems, SCADA, or data acquisition systems is preferred. Education /
Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required. 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, project engineering, process engineering, power generation, district energy, or related industries. Experience supporting utility plants, central plants, campus facilities, healthcare facilities, industrial plants, or energy infrastructure is highly desirable.
