Job Description

Substation Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a Substation Design Engineer to conduct engineering studies and perform design calculations for the installation of new and replacement substation equipment. This role involves performing physical substation engineering design, including creating general arrangement, electrical plan, and section view drawings, as well as cable and conduit plans, grounding plans, raceway plans, shielding plans, and bus work calculations. Responsibilities Perform physical substation engineering design tasks. Create or review foundation and structural designs. Develop bill of materials. Evaluate geotechnical analysis information and apply it to substation designs. Design or evaluate site civil plans specific to site grading, access, drainage, soil erosion, and sediment control. Create material lists and takeoffs from engineering designs. Understand, follow, and apply industry standards to engineering designs. Iteratively work to achieve the best design outcome considering cost, project scope, constructability, and consistency with existing practices. Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members. Manage project documents and records. Essential Skills 1+ years of applicable experience (Substation, industrial PLC/electrical, T-line, protection & controls) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Experience with AutoCAD Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to engineers, operations, construction crews, and non-technical stakeholders Ability to work cross-functionally with planning, protection, construction, and field personnel, as well as external contractors and vendors Additional Skills & Qualifications EIT or PE certification is a plus Work Environment The role is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and requires working in the office five days per week with a standard 40-hour workweek. Occasionally, the engineer may need to visit field sites with coworkers, utilizing a company vehicle. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
