Job Description

We are currently seeking a Substation Design Engineer for an 18-month renewable contract or direct hire opportunity located in Topeka, KS. Please note that US Citizenship is a mandatory requirement for this role. Compensation The hourly pay rate for this position is up to $84.00. Role Overview The ideal applicant will bring professional utility experience focused on electric substation, transmission line equipment, and generation fault protection systems. You should possess a strong grasp of fundamental engineering concepts and advanced mathematics. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of electric power engineering, including the interpretation of logic, wiring, and schematic diagrams. You must demonstrate the capacity to quickly master complex systems and apply your knowledge of protection schemes and relays across generation, transmission, and distribution networks. We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-starting professional who excels at organizing tasks, proofreading technical documentation, and collaborating effectively with team members. Proficiency in database management, word processing, and spreadsheet software is preferred, as is the ability to maintain high performance and manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Develop a comprehensive understanding of our internal design standards regarding control and protection systems. Ensure project accuracy by reviewing and marking up protection and control drawings for substations and transmission lines to align with our standard design practices. Contribute to project success by verifying detailed bills of material for system protection and control initiatives. Education An accredited Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required. Schedule This is a full-time position working the first shift.
