Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer / PLC Programmer with strong hands-on experience in PLC programming and industrial electrical systems , preferably within the marine or offshore environment . This role focuses on designing, programming, troubleshooting, and supporting electrical and automation systems used on marine vessels and marine-related equipment. A formal engineering degree is not required ; practical experience, technical knowledge, and proven PLC programming ability are essential. Key Responsibilities Design, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems for marine electrical applications Develop and modify PLC logic, HMI screens, and control documentation Perform commissioning, startup, and functional testing of electrical and automation systems on vessels or marine facilities Troubleshoot and repair electrical, control, and automation issues onboard vessels or at shipyards Interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and control drawings Interface with sensors, motors, VFDs, generators, switchgear, and safety systems Support upgrades, retrofits, and new installations of marine electrical and automation systems Ensure systems comply with applicable marine classifications, safety standards, and company procedures Work collaboratively with technicians, electricians, project managers, and vessel crews Provide technical documentation, reports, and support as required Required Skills & Qualifications Strong PLC programming experience (required) Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, or comparable PLC platforms Solid understanding of industrial and marine electrical systems Experience with HMI development and system integration Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control schematics Hands-on troubleshooting skills in live electrical and control environments Knowledge of AC/DC systems, motors, VFDs, sensors, and control panels Comfortable working in shipyards, onboard vessels, or industrial environments Preferred (But Not Required) Qualifications Marine, offshore, or shipyard electrical experience Familiarity with marine regulations and classifications (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, USCG, etc.) Experience with power generation, propulsion, or vessel automation systems Electrical, Automation, or Controls certifications Technical degree, associate degree, or trade training (degree not required ) Work Environment Shipyards, vessels, offshore facilities, and industrial sites May require travel, dockside work, or onboard assignments Combination of office, shop, and field work Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay based on experience and skill level Benefits package available (health, retirement, paid time off, etc.) Opportunities for training and advancement in marine automation and controls
