Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Substation Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on high-voltage substation projects ranging from 69kV to 345kV. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving project execution from groundbreaking through close out while holding safety, quality, and schedule as the top priorities. These projects will be throughout New England on predominantly National Grid and Eversource property. Duties Provide direct supervision and mentorship to assistant superintendents, foremen, electricians, technicians, and laborers across substation construction and maintenance activities Manage project schedules including two-week look-ahead preparation and coordination of all construction activities to hit project milestones Oversee the construction and installation of high-voltage substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, bus systems, grounding systems, relay panels, protection systems, and control wiring Coordinate with utility representatives, engineering teams, and system operations to support planned outages, switching procedures, and energization activities Proactively schedule and manage subcontractors, vendors, and internal crews to keep projects on track with contract requirements Partner with project management to maintain an accurate, updated project schedule that reflects real field conditions Run weekly coordination meetings including subcontractor and safety briefings Initiate and manage the RFI process, identifying field conflicts and proposing constructable solutions Support substation testing, commissioning, and energization activities alongside P&C teams and utility operators Coordinate delivery and staging of major equipment and materials including transformers, breakers, steel structures, relay panels, and conduit systems Manage punch list processes and project close-out including as-builts, commissioning records, and warranty support Maintain compliance with utility standards, engineering specifications, electrical codes, and project quality requirements Qualifications 8+ years of experience in electrical infrastructure construction with significant time spent on high-voltage substation or utility transmission projects Strong working knowledge of high-voltage substation systems (69kV to 500kV) including protection and controls, grounding systems, and commissioning processes Direct experience working with electric utilities Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred; commensurate field experience will be considered Solid understanding of construction budgeting, scheduling, and project controls best practices Proven leadership skills including crew development, motivation, goal setting, and conflict resolution Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across field crews, subcontractors, engineering teams, and utility clients Highly organized with strong time management, delegation, and prioritization skills in fast-paced environments Why This Role This is a high-visibility position with a company that works directly with electric utilities on critical infrastructure projects.
