Requirements Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited school. Four years or more of related engineering experience
  • PLUS a Professional Engineer license, OR Fifteen years or more of related engineering experience
  • A master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.
Possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D License. Excellent organizational, analytical, and written communication skills. This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience in substation engineering, including physical and protection/control design, equipment specifications, and coordination with civil/structural disciplines for new builds, expansions, and upgrades. Practical expertise in relay protection including settings development, misoperation analysis, and maintenance program support. Proficiency with power system analysis tools (e.g., ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSCAD) for studies such as short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash. Strong working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards (FAC, PRC, CIP) as applied to substation design, ratings, and protection systems.   • and medium-voltage substations, combining technical rigor with disciplined documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
This role blends hands-on engineering, regulatory accountability, and real-world operational support to keep substation assets accurate, reliable, and audit-ready. Design, review, and support substation and wind site electrical systems, including transformers, breakers, bus, grounding, and protection/control equipment. Lead engineering for projects and upgrades, delivering drawings, specifications, studies, and commissioning support. Ensure NERC compliance (FAC, PRC, CIP) through accurate ratings, settings, documentation, and audit support. Partner across engineering, operations, and compliance teams to resolve events, improve standards, and strengthen system reliability. Working Conditions Combination of office and field work; periodic substation site visits required. Must be able to work safely around energized high‑voltage equipment.
