Job Description

System Engineer Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association Yazoo City, MS 39194 Full-time Full-time System Engineer Yazoo City, MS | Full-Time (Hourly) Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association is seeking a qualified Substation Engineer to assist with the planning, design, coordination, maintenance support, and long-term reliability of the Association's substations and electrical infrastructure. Responsibilities include substation design and upgrades, system planning, protective relay coordination, troubleshooting electrical system issues, load and power studies, project coordination, contractor oversight, and supporting overall system reliability and operations. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Experience in electric utilities, substations, power systems, or electrical infrastructure is preferred. Candidates should possess strong technical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation:
Pay is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the ability to perform the responsibilities of the role. Competitive pay and excellent benefits package offered.
Abilities and Skills:
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, electrical schematics, safety manuals, and other job-related materials. Ability to prepare reports and communicate technical information effectively.
Communication:
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, consultants, management, and member-consumers.
Mathematical and Reasoning Skills:
Ability to apply engineering and mathematical concepts related to electrical systems, system planning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Ability to analyze technical data and make sound decisions.
Licensing Requirements:
Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and operate office equipment. Frequently required to walk on uneven terrain, inspect substations, bend, and climb stairs. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely work around energized electrical equipment and in varying outdoor conditions as needed.
