This role combines mechanical, electrical, and compliance engineering with direct ownership of products used in demanding foodservice environments. Your primary focus will be the design, performance, certification, and continuous improvement of commercial exhaust hood systems, including airflow optimization, fan integration, fire suppression coordination, and regulatory compliance. In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to new product development initiatives, including our next-generation outdoor electric patio heater platform. This position offers significantly broader product exposure than most specialized engineering roles, providing the opportunity to influence product design, certification strategy, manufacturing support, and future product innovation. Key Responsibilities, Commercial Ventilation Product Leadership Product Design & Performance Design, evaluate, and improve commercial kitchen exhaust hood systems. Optimize airflow performance, capture and containment efficiency, pressure losses, and acoustic characteristics. Conduct engineering analysis to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness. Compliance & Certification Lead product certification activities with third-party testing laboratories. Maintain compliance with applicable standards including:
UL 300A UL 710 UL 507 ETL

60335 and related international standards Manage certification testing, documentation, engineering changes, and ongoing compliance requirements. Fire Suppression Integration Integrate commercial fire suppression systems into hood designs. Coordinate with leading suppression manufacturers including ANSUL, Range Guard, and Amerex. Ensure designs maintain certification requirements while supporting ease of installation and serviceability. Electrical & Fan System Engineering Specify and integrate: Fan systems Motors Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Electrical controls Power distribution components Support electrical safety reviews and compliance with applicable codes and standards. New Product Development & Cross-Functional EngineeringElectric Heating Product Support Provide engineering support for the development of outdoor electric patio heating products. Assist with product architecture, controls integration, electrical safety, and certification activities. Support compliance efforts related to
UL 1278, EN
60335, and other applicable standards. CAD Design & Documentation Develop and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks. Generate technical documentation to support manufacturing, certification, installation, and service. Manufacturing & Operations Support Partner with production teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and implement product improvements. Support component selection, supplier qualification, and engineering change management. Provide technical guidance for Bills of Materials (BOMs), product manuals, and installation documentation. Customer & Field Support Serve as a technical resource for complex product inquiries. Investigate field issues and implement corrective actions when required. Collaborate with sales, operations, and customer support teams to ensure successful product deployment. Required QualificationsEducation Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Experience Minimum 3 years of product engineering experience within: Commercial kitchen ventilation Foodservice equipment HVAC products Air movement systems Industrial equipment manufacturing Minimum 4 years of total professional work experience. Technical Qualifications Experience working with UL, ETL, CSA, or similar certification programs. Strong understanding of electrical safety principles and applicable codes, including
NEC/NFPA 70.
Experience with fan systems, electrical components, controls, or electromechanical products. Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience with
UL 300A, UL 710, NFPA
96, or
EN 60335.
Prior experience with commercial kitchen ventilation manufacturers such as CaptiveAire, Halton, Greenheck, Accurex, Franke, or similar organizations. Experience integrating fire suppression systems including ANSUL, Range Guard, or Amerex. Experience specifying motors, VFDs, controls, and air movement equipment. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or commercial HVAC controls. Exposure to PLC programming platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Mitsubishi. Experience with acoustic/noise reduction engineering, electric heating products, or heat pump technologies.
